Constructed Family Portraits

Constructed Family Portraits is a conceptual project where I ask selected strangers solicited on the city streets or online, to meet me in a rented hotel room to pose for a family portrait. Willing strangers come together to form a temporary family for the camera before returning to their daily lives. They meet in a hotel room, close to home, but free of any personal associations and as ephemeral as the family in the portrait. Each family is named after the hotel they were photographed in and the images are blown up to near life size proportions. The resulting portraits raise questions of photographic truth, and expose our own expectations of what a family is supposed to look like. I am also interested in how we as viewer receive images and our willingness to believe them.
